“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Every Sunday we post a new verse to memorize together for the week. Currently, we are memorizing Jesus’ The Sermon on the Mount together. I’ve highlighted a section in pink for us to work on this week. If you can do more, great! Go for it! Let’s take some time this week to memorize one of Jesus’ greatest sermons- filled with encouragement and helpful instruction for our lives.
Memorizing the beatitudes has been so encouraging to my soul. It reminds me of the upside-down nature of the gospel in our world. Jesus makes right side up what the world pushes down with when He declares that “last shall be first” and the “weak are made strong”. When I am feeling like I am falling behind in life, or don’t feel the strength I know I need to get through whatever it is that I am facing — I rest in the “Blessed are” statements of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. I take sanctuary in the gospel that reminds me it’s not about what I have, can do, or abilities that matter but the posture of my heart.
Friends, let’s not just memorize His Word this week, let’s allow His Truth to seep down deep into our core and permeate our whole lives so that we are women who stand firm and guard the Truth that has been entrusted to us and live blessed because we believe!
