UNSTOPPABLE GOSPEL: Allowing The Inexorable Truth Set You Free!

READ: ACTS 6:8-8:1b

“Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” {Acts 7:56}

Do you sometimes feel discouraged by how slow it can seem for the fulfilling of God’s promises to show up in your life? Do you wait, pray and wonder, often seeing little evidence of God’s faithfulness to fulfill his promises to you?

“And you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you.  All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.” {Joshua 23:14, ESV}

In today’s passage, Steven takes us back to the lives of Abraham, Joseph, and Moses, and highlights the faithfulness of the Lord to fulfill his promises even when it seemed too late. He didn’t just show the faithfulness of God to get them to fulfillment but also in carring them every step of the way.

Abraham was promised an inheritance through a son, Joseph was given a dream, a glimpse, of his call. And Moses was saved at birth so that he would be able to lead God’s people out of slavery.  Each one marked with a great call on their life but none seeing the fulfillment until much later.

They struggled with the promise God revealed to them.  Abraham listened to his wife and had a son with Hagar, Joseph boasted to his brothers about his dream and stirred up jealousy amongst them, and Moses killed a man.

I’m guessing they all had doubts, feared they lost the call or worried they weren’t going to be good enough for God to use them.

Even when we perpetuate our suffering, God has the ability to orchestrate his own design of mercy.

Through their whole life, we see the sovereignty of the Lord carrying them to the fulfillment of his promises. Hindsight brings clarity and reveals God’s beautifully orchestrated fulfillment all along.  I’m sure for Joseph, being sold to Egypt and living as a slave didn’t feel like he was on the right track.  But we know now that he was perfectly placed in front of Pharaoh, at the most opportune time, to be elevated to a position that in the end maked him able to fulfill his call as well as help his family.

I  believe God is faithful!  I believe that the promises and plans of the Lord will succeed every time! Our only responsibility is to believe God and trust the Lord even when what we see might not look just right. And especially when we’ve personally mucked it up.

I pray as you read today’s passage and take a look back through Steven’s speech at the epic stories of Abraham, Joseph, and Moses, that you will be reminded of our good and faithful God!  May you step deeper into his embrace and believe that God is getting you to where you are going. Believe it!
