Armed With Truth, Thanksgiving, and Prayer. { Day 7 }

READ:  1 TIMOTHY 4:1-5

“For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.” { 1 Timothy 4:4-5 }

Today’s scripture starts with a warning.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to decietful spirits and teachings of deomons,…

Ever since the fall in the garden, we have been aware and should be cautioned to guard against false spirits and their crafty attempts to pull us from God and Truth.

“You will not surely die, For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”  So the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that is was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, ” { Genesis 3:4-6 }

I tend to be acutely aware of dark and oppressive spirits that can circle around us. And as weird as it can be to think about the spiritual heavenly realm here on earth I definitely believe the battle for our souls is real.

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” { Ephesians 6:12 }

Over that past few years, I have battled anxiety.  Something I never thought I would ever experience in my life. At times it’s been an unbelievably dark battle and although I know that it is a serious mental health disease I believe the enemy has used my disease it for his own good.  Taking my mind that had fallen into a destructive cycle of thinking and crafting just the right fear hinged thoughts to magnify the already tough battle raging in my head.

In those moments, I cling especially tight to the Lord.  I would recite scripture over and over again, I would spend time in prayer, sometimes hours.  I would fall sleep with the bible reading apps playing all night long starting in Genesis and hope to wake up in Numbers {that would be some seriously good sleep if I did, Lol.} so that I would have a constant protection of the Word around me.

It’s in those times that I have learned even more how relentless the enemy can be at captivating our attention and keeping it fixed on darkness.

When we cling to the Lord, He is so good to rescue us from the craftiness of the evil one. Click To Tweet

Friends, there are a lot of things that sound really good but aren’t always true.  When we are not in the Word on a regular basis, we are not armed to recognize the difference.  Those crafty, and often, partially true beliefs can slowly stir our thoughts away from God. A slippery slope that can happen slow and build over time.

To guard against getting duped into believing something contrary to the Truth, we need to be in the Word every day. It takes knowing the Truth so that when we hear a lie we can dispel it quickly. It’s believing that we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us desperate to help us check what we are hearing against the Holy One himself, knowing and trusting that God is always so faithful to reveal Himself and His Truth to us.

As you read and reflect on today’s scripture, think about the things you are exposed to every day?  Do you fill your mind with God’s Word more then you fill your mind with things of this world? In the morning, do you pray and put on your holy armor of protection?

Let’s be women who relentlessly seek the Lord, arming ourselves every day in Truth, thanksgiving, and prayer!

REFLECT:

  • Can you recall a time you were susceptible to the lies of the evil one?  What was happening at that time and how can you guard against it happening again?
  • How has knowing God’s Word helped you guard against some of the lies thrown at you?
  • Are there times in your day you could stand to use more prayer?  How can you set a reminder to incorporate more prayer into your day?

PRAYER:

Lord, thank you that you are mightier than the evil one.  That even though we are in a very real battle against the unseen world your faithfulness to guard us is palpable and so very real. Help us to be women who press even more into your faithfulness and Truth every day with thanksgiving and prayer.  Careful to put on our holy armor of protection against the fiery arrows coming at us. In your precious name, Amen!
