READ: COLOSSIANS 1:1-14
Do you have a “why, God?” rolling around in your mind? I often do. There are so many things happening in my life, and in the lives of those around me, that I just plain don’t understand. And it doesn’t feel like the struggles are getting easier but instead more challenging as the days roll on. It’s in the hurting, sickness, financial struggle, death and so many other situations that have me on my knees almost daily, crying out “why?”.
In the valley’s of “why, Lord?” I don’t often get the answers I’m looking for.
In truth, God doesn’t often answer our why questions, does He? I had a mentor a few years ago say, “it’s not a question of why things happen the way they do.” The bible never answers the “why” questions. But instead it’s always a question of “who?” And the answer is always Jesus! Jesus paid it all and is all to those who believe.
I don’t believe God wants us to stop asking the why’s of our lives. He desires more than anything to be in relationship with us and that includes sharing our authentic heart, especially in our hurting. The bible tells us that the Lord is actually jealous for us and anything that takes our attention away from Him. One definition of the word “jealous” says “fiercely protective or vigilant of protecting of one’s rights or processions.”
His character is to fiercely protect us all the time. Even though we live in a fallen world where we may still experience pain and struggle, God in our hardship, wants to be our peace that surpasses all understanding. A peace that even in the whirlwind can provide a calm.
Sometimes, I think the Lord rejoices even more when we seek him in our struggles. It’s in those more difficult times in our lives, when we press into Him and trust the Lord with our hurting, when our faith tends to grow the most. As our faith grows we gain a greater understanding of God, we see His character more clearly, and we experience his faithfulness more fully.
He’s about to do something great! Believe it, the bible tells us so! Asking God the the hard questions but keep on trusting, believing, and pressing into Jesus no matter what — He is the “Who” who will never stop listening, caring, providing for you. He is the One who without fail is fiercely protecting you with an everlasting love!
