SHE BELIEVES: A FAITH THAT BELIEVES NO MATTER WHAT.*article originally appeared on April 8, 2016

Is it possible to have a faith that believes God no matter what?

I’ve been a Christian my whole life but I haven’t always had a faith that believed God. I believe in God for sure! That has never changed. But believe God, that’s a different story. I’ve prayed for things that haven’t happened. And I’ve wondered, does God hear me? I’ve asked for healing and haven’t been healed. Am I worthy of being fixed?

Where were the promises of God for me? Was I different? Was I the one person in the whole world the promises of God do not apply? Was I worthy of God’s help?

I grew up without cell phones, apps, or the internet.  When you look around today, can you believe there existed such a time?  Now, the world cruises at a much faster pace. Our lifestyle and the technological advances make it possible for us to get more done in less time, so we do more!  We also have everything we could ever want available to us at the touch of a button.  I rely on this truth every morning when it takes me a couple simple clicks to order my Americano.  Open Starbucks App. Order. BethAnn’s Fav Drink. Purchase!  Voila!

With the growing ease to satisfy our every whim and the speed of life increasing, I can’t help but wonder how that is affecting our ability to believe God, who is not bound by time. Trusting His perfect timing when our timing speeds up.

If God is all powerful, why does it feel like Amazon delivers faster than God?

In some cities, Amazon can deliver in as fast as an hour. That’s fast. When we don’t have to wait very long for our shopping escapades what does that do to our belief in an all powerful God for the more important prayers in our life when it doesn’t feel like they are answered as fast?

I’ve spent a lot of time trusting the results I could see instead of keeping the faith in a God I knew was greater.

When I pray and don’t see the answers I hoped for, I start to stack the results that I did see on top of the truth I knew.  God’s Word and the truth of who He is became buried underneath a tall stack of the world.  I slowly stopped trusting God and started believing the world.  It didn’t happen overnight and the gradual slide made it hard to recognize that it was happening at all.

It can be so easy to rely on what we can see, touch, feel so much so that we lose sight of the truth of we know.  God hears our prayers and He answers us {1 John 5:14}!

The Apostle Paul warns us in 2nd Timothy to guard the truth we know. Why? Because he knew it would be really easy to get distracted, pulled away, or lured into false belief.

“By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit {truth} entrusted to you.” {2 Timothy 2:14, ESV}

The word “guard” is a very physical action to protect.  It’s not lackadaisical or when I get around to it mentality but instead, it’s a vigilant stance to protect what we believe.

Knowing my own propensity to be pulled away from God’s truth and believe the world more, I have established a plan of defense to guard at all costs what I know and believe about God for a faith that is unwavering. My defense has been making a daily habit of getting up and digging into God’s Word first thing in the morning so that I am armed in my heart and mind with the truth to believe God for my whole day and to trust His word and timing above anything the world can offer.

Believing God, first takes knowing God. And second, requires protecting the truth we know and believe through a daily defense of God’s truth!

Friends, it is so possible to have a faith that believes God know matter what.  May you be strengthened to believe God more and trust him above everything else as you grow in relationship with our Lord for a faith that believes God all the time!
