“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” {James 1:17, ESV}

Do you ever rejoice in the hard times? Like really throw your hands up in the air and par-tay. Joyfully saying something like “yay, I’m going through a really hard time!” That would be ridiculous, right? Or would it?

I don’t know about you but in the midst of a trial I have a hard time seeing it as a good thing. In James, we are taught to count it all joy.  But why? When we are hard pressed on every side but remain steadfast in our trust of the Lord, we open the door to a front row seat to see all God will do.  And when we have that first-hand experience of God, our faith grows. It’s in believing, trusting, and seeing that we are blessed.

A good and perfect gift is a God centered perspective. Click To Tweet

Our perspective and where we put our focus in the midst of the trial that has the ability to breath life and adds blessing into our lives when our focus is on God.  Do we see our trial as something terrible that is happening to us or do we see the faithfulness of God getting us through it? It’s in the trials of life where we really get to exercise our faith and reap the blessings only God can provide when we wholeheartedly trust Him every step of the way.

Sometimes I can look at my life and see incredible blessings and other times I can scan and see only the heartache and struggle. And still other times I see the hard but relish the blessings at the same time. In each of these scenarios, God never changes, I do.

My shifting emotions and perspective around a particular situation has the ability to challenge my faith and sometimes {sadly} my emotions win.

But God never changes!  It’s in His unchanging faithfulness that we receive blessing upon blessing.

It can be difficult to comprehend the unchanging nature of God in a world full of uncertainty.  However, I recently read an analogy that helped me understand it a little better and I hope it helps you too.  It went a little something like this: The sun remains the same in it’s rising and setting and effect each day, however, the earth and its clouds can make it seem to us as though it changes, right? Just like the clouds can come in front of the sun and change its appearance so can our perspective around a situation in our life hinder our faith in God. Our trust in God weavers when we put anything before Him in our lives.

When we put more of an emphasis on the trial instead of the faithfulness of God, hardship wins. Likewise, when we keep our steadfast gaze on God, trusting and unmoved by what is happening, we walk in our good and perfect gift, every time.

…And we will receive our promised crown!

“Blessed is the man {woman} who remains steadfast under trial, for when he {she} has stood the test he{she} will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him.” {James 1:12, ESV}

May your sight be set to the faithfulness of God in every situation of your life!
