{ More Jesus } You are intimately known / Day 8

To create something is to intimately know every part of that thing you’ve created.

As the creator, you know exactly how it was put together or built up.  You could take it apart and reconstruct it with ease.  When it breaks, you’re the one who knows how to fix it.

To create is to tap into our innovative side and make our environment better.  It’s taking the resources at hand and making something useful.  Creativity isn’t just limited to the arts, innovation seeps into every part of our lives when we allow it.  Yes, even in accounting. Those numbers-filled spreadsheets take creativity to construct. Believe it!

When we create, we bear the image of God. Click To Tweet

We act as He acted.  We carry out His passion and even reveal His character.

“For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things were created through him and for him.” {Colossians 1:16, ESV}

Recently, I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone and learning how to paint, acrylic and oil paint on canvas mostly.  I’ve always had a bit of a fear when it came to getting creative so sitting down at a canvas is still a bit intimidating for me. When I start to create something, I really need to find that thing that stirs me up and that I have some sort of connection with before I can start to paint. And once I’ve done that, as my painting takes shape, I grow more and more connected to what I am creating. There’s a love that develops when what was once in my head and heart is now on the canvas.

I was recently asked if I would be willing to sell one of my paintings, you have to know how absurd that sounds to me. I’m laughing a little inside from embarrassment even mentioning it.  But the buyer was serious.  And I had to wrestle with whether or not I could I let one of my creations go?

My answer for that particular painting was, “no”.  But who knows in the future?

For me, this was just about a painting, and not even my best work if you ask me. But what if we put ourselves in God’s shoes? He created each one of us, stitched us together and knows us intimately.  When God was finished creating us He said, “behold, it was very good.”  and then in His great love went one step further and gifted us with free will.

Be bound to our creator or venture on your own?  It’s your choice.

Just like I struggled to let go of one of my creations, the Lord is jealous when we let go of Him or try and venture on our own.

The next verse in Colossians reads “and He is before all things and in Him all things hold together.” {Colossians 1:17, ESV}

I think it’s really easy to get caught up in figuring things out on our own or believing God doesn’t have time for our pesky little prayers.  But God desires to be involved with every part of our lives!  We have the ability to walk through this life with the very preeminence of Christ living in us.

The One who stitched us together, and intimately knows every part of us, wants to help us in every way, and every day.  He knows what we desire, what gets us excited, and what causes us to grow impatient. He created us and put those character traits in us! There is nothing about us that surprises the Lord. And our perfect Creator is available to help us through every part of our lives, especially in our brokenness. When we draw close to the Lord, we tap into the all-powerful Creator of us, who CAN and WILL hold all things together in our lives! Believe it!

My prayer for us today is that we would all draw closer to the One who stitched us together today.  Seeking Him for the help, direction, and love we need right now to concur our day!

  • Is there a character trait of the Lord you are not believing is available for you?
  • Being reminded that God knows you intimately, how can that change your prayers for what is going on in your life right now?
