{ More Jesus } The life that longs to live in me / Day 18

READ: Ephesians 6:10-21, ESV

“Is the life I lead the life that longs to live in me?” – Parker J. Palmer

In the book, Let Your Life Speak, Parker J. Palmer asks the question “Is the life I lead the life that longs to live in me?”   He challenges the reader to look at this question as more than just a vocational barometer but an opertunity to really listen to our internal voice and live in conjunction and authentically in tune for our whole life. I believe that our most important internal voice is the Holy Spirit speaking and guiding a believer.

If I were to honestly answer this question for myself, I would have to say I often feel like I’m falling short of the life I was truely meant to live. And while I have big asperations to impact the world in meaninful ways like the Malala Yousafzai’s and Mother Teresa’s of the world, in reality, I get tripped up long before I get anywhere close.  But, it’s not that my goals are too lofty, afterall we serve a big God, but instead, it’s that my activation towads my goals is often missing one key component to getting me there seccessfully.

We are all created for a great purpose that only we are able to fulfill! Click To Tweet

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” {Ephesians 2:10, ESV}

When my daily grind doesn’t complete what I set out to do, or what I know the Lord has called me too, it’s often because I’m getting hammered down by discouragement or shifted by distractions along the way. My good intentions and prayerful motivations get unexpectedly halted. It’s frustrating and while I have learned little by little to guard myself against some of the deterrents tossed my way, inevitably another one pops up dressed a little different and coming from an unexpected direction like that 1980’s Mole Bop game.

In what feels like a never-ending game of bopping one obstacle down after another, I can grasp, even if just a little, what the Bible says our real battle is here on earth.  As it says in Ephesians 6:12, our real battle is “against the rulers, against the authorities, against the comic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

The schemes of the devil are far craftier than I’d like to give him credit and I struggle to give him any attention.  But the more we fight back the more relentless the enemy is at throwing us off our track because he knows the more we understand God’s got our backs and press into Him for our daily strength, the more unshakable we become. We need to be suiting up for the battle more often if we want to live the life that longs to live in us! Putting on the full Armor of God daily. {Ephesians 6}

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” { Ephesians 6:10, ESV}

When I was at a conference earlier this year hosted by Beth Moore, she encouraged us to get really good at asking the Lord for what we need in order to fulfill what we are here to do.  It sounds pretty simple and yet I continue to forget to tap into our Heavenly Father who I know desires to equip us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places so that we are able to stand up against the schemes of the devil, fulfill our life’s unique purpose, and walk in more freedom while we do it!

So, I ask you, what do you need from Jesus today?

Do you need to put on the Belt of Truth to guard against deception? or the Breastplate of Righteousness to alert you to distractions? or the Shoes of Peace to build unity and not division? or the Shield of Faith to fend of doubts? or the Halmet of Salvation to protect against discouragement? or the Sword of the Spirit in order to be vigiliant against dullness? Or all of it?

Ask the Lord for what you need today, knowing and believing that whatever you ask in prayer you will receive! And let’s walk out in victory and living fully the life God has uniquely and purposefully designed for us to live, the very life that longs to live in us today.
