{ More Jesus } Name above all names. / Day 12

READ: Philippians 2:9-11, ESV

 “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name” {Philippians 2:9, ESV}

The name of Jesus isn’t just a word. It is impossible to completely unpack, but wow, can it unpack you! At the simple reading or hearing of his name, so much can happen physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Just one name. Jesus { Greek transliteration, lesous; Hebrew, Yeshua }. In Christ alone our hope is found, so it is his name alone we lift on high!  Scripture is full of references to the name, titles, and character of Jesus. These are just a few. My sincere prayer is that you will hunger for more of him after reading them!

JESUS IS OUR…

Strong Tower. Are you needing a place of safety? Run into the name of Jesus { Proverbs 18:10The name of the Lord is a Strong Tower }. What does that mean? Go, find out.

Sustenance. Are you ‘hungry’, in need of ‘food’ that will satiate the deep longing in every part of you? Come to the Bread of Life { John 6:35 }. Nothing and no one can fill you like Jesus.

Hope. Do you feel hopeless because of your current circumstances or your past? Jesus himself is our Hope { 1 Tim 1:11 }. You never need to be without hope, for in Him you have a hope that exceeds all disappointments and unmet expectations.

Peace. Is your life, your mind, your relationships, your heart, and/or your circumstances turbulent? Jesus is peace. He is not merely peaceful, no. He IS peace. { Ephesians 2:14 }.

Deliverer. Do you need to be rescued? The greek word used for “deliver’ in 1 Thess 1:10 is ruomai (rhyomai), which means to draw or rescue a person to and for the deliverer. He has and He will deliver you to Himself and for Himself!

Good Shepherd. Do you need to be comforted? Know that you have a God who will never take his eyes off of you. He laid down his life for you. He knows you { John 10:11-14 }. He leads you besides still waters and restores your soul { Psalm 23 }. No one is more worthy of your complete trust!

AT HIS NAME…

Every knee will bow: So that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, in heaven and on earth and under the earth { Phil. 2:10 }

Every tongue will confess: EVERY TONGUE CONFESS that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. { Phil. 2:11 }

IN HIS NAME WE…

Do everything: Whatever you do, in word or deed, DO EVERYTHING in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. { Col 3:17 }

Ask: Whatever you ASK IN MY NAME, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. { John 14:13 }

HIS NAME WE ARE CALLED TO…

Exalt: Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us EXALT HIS NAME together! { Psalm 34:3 }

Bless: BLESS THE LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! { Psalm 103:1 }

Call on to be saved: There is salvation in no one else, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. { Acts 4:12 For everyone who calls ON THE NAME OF THE LORD will be saved. { Romans 10:13 }

Hold fast Yet you HOLD FAST MY NAME, and you did not deny my faith { Revelation 2:13 }

Sisters, may you find all you need in Christ today, for he is truly all these things and much more! He is the fountain that won’t run dry. He is the love that will never leave us. He is the one who sings over us. Jesus. He is our healer, our comforter, our counselor, our king! Praise you Savior, Redeemer, Lion & Lamb, Alpha & Omega, Almighty One!

Appropriately, as I was writing this while listening to Pandora, the song What a Beautiful Name { by Hillsong } came on. I recommend you take a moment to listen, and to praise his beautiful, wonderful, powerful name!!

REFLECT:

  • Which one of the descriptions of Jesus above speak to you the most right now? Why?
  • There are a lot of Bible verses mentioned above. Please chose one that you need the most to meditate on this week and write it somewhere where you can see it every day. Let it seep into your heart!

PRAYER:

My Lord, many times I am at a loss for words for what to pray, so I simply say Jesus. Often times I just say it over and over…and there is so much power in that! So I simply say now, Thank you Jesus. With all of my heart, thank you for making your name wonderful, beautiful, and powerful to me!
