JOHN | He is the Light that shines in the darkness {DAY ONE}

READ: John Chapter One

“The plainest reason why the Son of God is called the Word, seems to be, that as our words explain our minds to others, so was the Son of God sent in order to reveal his Father’s mind to the world.” ~ Matthew Henry’s Commentary

Jesus was sent to reveal the heart of our Heavenly Father.

There are three Greek variations used in the bible to translate “the Word”, they are “Graphe”, “Logos”, and “Rhema”.  The word “Graphe” means the words on the page or literally the book. Whereas the word “Rhema” is translated as the spoken word of God.   And the word “Logos” is translated as the message of the book.  Jesus was the Logos, He is the Message!

If you can,  jog your memory all the way back to “in the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth” of Genesis 1:1 and know that Jesus was there.   He is the complete message of grace and Truth and the One whom all the stories pointed to throughout the whole Old Testament and New.

“And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father full of grace and truth.” { John 1:14, ESV }

Jesus, who always was, manifest in the flesh and became the Light of the world.  In much of the Gospel, light represents the revelation and salvation that Jesus offers.  In Jewish thought, it was the Law that pointed to salvation but Jesus did away with the Law and became The Way.  He is our direct line to salvation that couldn’t be earned or taken away.

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” { John 1:4-5, ESV}

Jesus is the shining beacon of love and hope who blasts through any darkness and brings it into the light. Lean into Him today.

 “He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading…{1 Peter 1:3b-4, ESV}

Beloved, you have this Light in you! A light that cannot be turned off, covered up or dimmed in any way.  Let your light shine through the darkness!  Any struggle or unsavory circumstances, bring them to the feet of Jesus.  Don’t let the enemy or anything in this world convince you that you’re not worthy of every blessing and the full inheritance promised to you.

God, by your grace upon grace may we come to know, trust, and believe you more for our eternal salvation and the bright light placed in us to diminish all darkness through Jesus Christ!  ~ Amen.

Reflect:

  • Do you have anything in the dark that needs to be brought into the light?
  • Is there anything causing you to have distance with God?
  • Do you believe being perfect is the only way God could ever use you?
