It is  widely believed that the tribe of Levi prepared priests, while the tribe of Judah paved the way of kings.  While todays reading can be a bit challenging to drudge through with all it’s complicated biblical names, places, and the sometimes hard to follow land assignments, it’s impressive to see the character of God in the design.

Judah, who’s name means “praise” is the first tribe in our reading to receive their inheritance.  I think it’s no coincidence they are first.  Judah holds great significance in our present freedom in Christ. History assures us that Jesus’ lineage can be traced back to the house of David {1 Kings 2:45} and ultimately Judah. Our King who deserves to be praised!

{A little history reminder, Jacob had twelve son’s who became the 12 tribes of Israel.  Judah was Jacob’s fourth son, however, since Jacobs first son Reuben committed incest and the second and third sons, Simon and Levi committed murder against the Shechemites, the inheritance and birthright then fell in Judah’s lap.}

Today, when we read about the land inheritance details for the tribe of Judah, remember our King who came from Judah.  Remember the ‘root of David’ who sprung out of Judah.  Jesus!  Think about how strategic and specific our heavenly Father is at dividing up the land and giving that first physical inheritance to Judah. How specific and careful God is to include such great detail in every aspect of the land allotment.

That same God, who’s hand never left the Israelites as they conquered the Promise Land, who set up the tribe of Judah with their inheritance. The God who very specifically and purposely prepared the way for Jesus.   He is the same God who is working in your life today, strategically weaving all things together. He’s the same God who desires to be your ever present help. He’s the same God who is specifically working all things out for your good and His glory.  He’s the same God who lovingly walks you through tough situations, and He’s the same God who wants to bless you through your inheritance.  Your spiritual land allotment in Christ Jesus!
