RUTH: A PRETTY GOOD DAY AT WORK. {DAY 7}

Ruth-Day-7

READ: RUTH 2:17-23 // #TruthVignette

“May he be blessed by the Lord, whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!” Naomi also said to her, “The man is a close relative our ours, on of our redeemers” {Ruth 2:20-21, ESV}

Provision.  There is a great deal of provision happening in today’s passage.  Do you see it?

I wonder if Naomi and Ruth anticipated that God would work out their circumstances the way He did?  I can’t even begin to count how many times, in my own life, the Lord has provided in ways I never would have expected. And it often exceeds my expectations.  In missions, at work, in relationship…the Lord has completely ‘knocked my socks off‘ numerous times.  Not only in what’s provided but in the “how” He chooses to answer my prayers and provide for my needs. Really, just blew those suckers right off my feet with amazement!

Ruth just happens to land herself in the only field that could change her life circumstances forever.

Most likely you’ve heard the rest of this story so this won’t need a spoiler alert, but we know that Ruth and Naomi get their guardian redeemer in the end.  And not only does the Lord provide their redeemer, He provides protection, food and kindness right then — that day in the field.

Ruth finishes her work day with an ephah of barley {that’s about a 3/5 bushel}, leftovers from her meal break with Boaz {to share with Naomi, I would presume}, and a promise of protection in the safety of community with the other woman also gleaning in Boaz’s field.

I’d say that’s a pretty good day of work! Wouldn’t you?

“The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.  The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.” {Psalms 16:5-6, ESV}

Ruth’s plan was to work hard and provide a little food for her and Naomi for survival and it’s as if God said “I’ve got a little something more I’d like to give you!” Isn’t that God’s beautiful modus operandi to bless us with a little more than we could imagine?

When we commit our ways to the Lord, He is so faithful to Knock our socks off with His perfect provision! A provision that abundantly exceeds our expectations or imaginations.  Trust it, Beloved! — because it is so true!

Believe It! – God is our great provider!

Trust It! – To him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or imagine, according to the power at work within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. {Ephesians 3:20-21, ESV}

Live It!Are you waiting on something?  Asking God for something you need and struggling to believe the Lord will provide?  Lay it down in prayer today.  Lay it down at the foot of the cross and trust that God is going to provide;  pray expectantly and with a thankful heart for the provision that has already been perfectly designed for you!  It’s coming, you’ll see.
