READ: ACTS 5:12 – 42
The great commission says “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations”. It’s a charge to all believers to make God known where ever and whenever possible. In today’s reading we see just how powerful the Holy Spirit is at opening doors, literally, and making possible what seemed impossible.
The disciples were in prison for preaching and doing many signs and wonderings in Jesus’ name. At night, an angel of the Lord opens the doors, ushers them to center court, so that they can continue to speak and preach the name of God.
Pretty remarkable, right?
As the chapter continues, we see how many false prophets and teachers had claimed to be the promised Messiah didn’t last long and eventually failed, every one! “but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them.”
This is goal setting season. It’s a time to set great goals for the year as well as dream big for your life. With the new year the slate has been wiped clean and we’ve all been given a fresh start! So as many of us are getting our 2016 goals and dreams for the new year committed to paper, I think it’s no coincidence the timing of this lesson in our study.
I believe God is a big dreamer and I love that because he made me to dream big as well. The sky’s the limit with our all-powerful and ever faithful God. As I’ve been dreaming with God in prayer about what this year should be about for me, and plans to make God known, I can’t believe some of the BIG dreams he’s placed on my heart.
Dreams so audacious that, when I think about doing them myself, they stir up fear and doubt. But when I intentionally commit them to the Lord in prayer, often having to surrender them daily to the Lord, they are so possible! Believe it! Do you have big dreams for your life? Do they fit in line with The Word and God’s character and promises? Take some time to pray over those dreams with the Lord today. Ask the Lord to confirm and breathe life into those dreams. Commit your plans to the Lord and you can not fail! Believe it!
